Clinical Hypnotherapy
Yan Yen Loo, CHT is a Certified Hypnotherapist.
She is certified by the American Board of Hypnotherapy.
What is clinical hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic tool used to facilitate behaviour changes with 10,000 times more focus. Habits are difficult to break when you use the conscious mind to learn new patterns. It is much easier when done through the unconscious mind. This is because the unconscious mind is where all learning takes place (ex. learning how to walk, learning to divide and multiply, etc).
Hypnotherapy is an incredible form of therapy because it is a tool that can be easily and effortlessly incorporated into your life. No thinking and minimal effort is required!
What can hypnotherapy help with?
Clinical hypnotherapy is appropriate for making behavioural changes related to your health and wellbeing. I have a practice focus using hypnotherapy to help women navigate through the maze of high-functioning anxiety, whether they're on the brink of burnout or already entrenched in its grasp!
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnotherapy is similar to a guided mediation. Both get you into a relaxed state. The difference is that hypnotherapy is personalized to your specific desired outcomes. The relaxed state achieved through hypnotherapy gets your brain into the alpha or theta waves. Your brain is in the alpha wave state when you’re in the shower, on the toilet, driving, etc. You’re awake, but relaxed and can easily lose track of time. It is when you have the most profound thoughts in the awake state, and new ideas seemingly pop out of nowhere. Theta waves is the state you are in just before you fall asleep. This is when you experience increased relaxation, reduced thought activity, and are less inclined to question information you hear.
Will I lose control and become brainwashed?
Absolutely not! Hypnotherapy can never take away your free will and choice. Once you are in a relaxed hypnotic state, we are able to communicate with your unconscious mind. At this point I provide suggestions to it, based on behaviours you specifically want to change. These are only suggestions. Since hypnotherapy is not able to take away your free will, I cannot make you act on these suggestions. Only you can decide and choose whether to act on the suggestions and make the changes happen. In fact, this is the reason why hypnotherapy will only work if you truly want the change to happen! As such, complete commitment to change is a prerequisite for working together.
There are 5 steps required for brainwashing. All five listed steps need to happen to effectively brainwash a person. Hypnosis does not do any of these!
Removal from environment of influence
Sleep deprivation
Pain if one disagrees
Pleasure if one agrees
Change in biochemistry (via drugs, psychotropics, electroshock therapy, etc. to rewire neurology and/or physiology)
What can I expect during the first session?
Your first appointment will start with an introduction to further your understanding of hypnosis. We will then dive deeper into the details of your goals. Finally, you will proceed to rest comfortably, either laying on a table/bed/couch or sitting upright with your head comfortably supported, to start the hypnosis. It is at this point that the session will be recorded for you to keep as continued support (i.e. your personalized guided meditation recording)!
What can I do to get the most out of my sessions?
There are three requirements for hypnotherapy to work:
100% commitment to change
Hypnotherapy removes the blockages in order to access the unconscious mind that allows you to make changes with 10,000 times more focus. I will be providing you suggestions based on your desired outcomes. However, what you do with them is your choice since I cannot take away your free will or choice. What you do with the suggestions is your responsibility.Have fun, use your imagination and play along
The unconscious mind is your imagination. Similar to a young chid exploring the world for the first time, the unconscious mind likes to have fun, play, imagine, and learn new things. It is curious, loves stories (not facts), and is very creative. In order to access the unconscious mind you need to speak its language.
Listen to your hypnosis recording as directed
Repetition strengthens neuron connections. Much the same as going to the gym to build physical muscles, exercising more than once will establish sustainable results!
Testimonials
“Yan Yen has been “heaven sent”. I’ve tried so many things with different practitioners over the years. When I started working with Yan Yen, I had a feeling that something finally clicked.
Yan Yen has been very supportive along my reprogramming journey. Each hypnotherapy recording is personalized and addresses a specific concern we unpacked in a session.
I am extremely happy with the outcome and grateful we crossed paths.”
— Wathit L.
“I went into the session feeling as though it may be a last hope in terms of thwarting habit that I had been bound by for decades. After a single session, I felt as though I was much more aware of my relationship with this habit, and, as such, in way better position to be able to take control of it.
I very much appreciate the recording and the ability to revisit the hypnosis at my convenience. I honestly feel as though it has quickly become a fantastic tool I can use to overcome a terrible habit and it has inadvertently helped with my sleep troubles and overall anxiety as well.”
